Public transport discounts in 2025: how to save with Ticket Transporte

On 23 January 2025, the Congress of Deputies repealed the decree extending public transport subsidies, which initially caused concern among users due to the elimination of the discounts in force since 2022. However, on 28 January 2025, the Council of Ministers approved a new Royal Decree-Law which reintroduces and extends this aid until 30 June 2025.

During this period, Renfe's free Renfe season tickets for Cercanías, Rodalies and conventional Media Distancia, as well as state bus lines, remain in force. In addition, the government maintains direct aid to autonomous communities and local entities to guarantee discounts of at least 50% on the price of season tickets and multi-journey tickets for urban and metropolitan public transport.

New bonus scheme as of 1 July 2025

From 1 July 2025, the government will implement a new system of discounts and bonuses which will include:

A monthly pass of €20 for all zones for each Cercanías hub, interoperable between different hubs.
Free public transport for under 15s.
Special discounts for young people.
Reduced rates for returning users.
New aid to promote the use of bicycles as a means of daily transport.
