Complex problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity are some of the key skills of the management skills that the leaders of the future cannot be without, according to the study The Future of Jobs.

This is the set of capabilities that will guide the company in an environment where the high frequency of innovation will require maximising the adaptability of the business. Management skills must also make it possible to achieve goals by combining human effort with the contribution of machines.

Robots and individuals form the new business landscape, is your organisation ready for this new era? Do you have the necessary management skills to meet the challenges involved?

Technology and management skills: a slightly different equation

Technology and management skills: a slightly different equation

75% of the companies surveyed by PWC for their CEO 2017 study confirm that they have had to make changes to its talent strategy. There are two main reasons for this:

  • The need to fill the shortage of managerial skills coming up.
  • The importance of aligning with the future employment structure, which has to be reflected in such policies.

The same report by PWC assures that “there is a high probability that new jobs in senior positions will be related to digital and technology skills”.”, a set of managerial skills that three-quarters of the CEOs surveyed rated as important or very important.

The profiles that include them are often among the most difficult to obtain and this challenge is compounded by the complexity of finding professionals who meet the following criteria the five top 5 management skills for the organisation, which are:

  • Leadership.
  • Problem solving.
  • Creativity.
  • Adaptability.
  • Innovation.

This is a set of typically human capabilities. There is no machine in the world that can develop them, and yet they are essential. In addition to these, there are others, such as digital skills.

How to prepare for developing the management skills of the future

According to research by the World Economic Forum, “35% of the skills needed to thrive in a job today will be different in five years' time.”. This implies that it is not so easy to prepare for managing the business of the future - how can you do it if you cannot be sure what it will be like? What management skills should be worked on today to ensure the success of tomorrow?

The World Economic Forum conducted a survey in which nine hundred companies participated. The aim was to gain a better understanding of the management skills needed in these jobs of the future.

Once again, the results confirmed that the most relevant managerial skills are, among others:

  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Responsibility.
  • Commitment.
  • Knowledge of digital tools.

However, we must not lose sight of the fact that the world of work is changing, so if you want to keep up, focus on continuous learning, the only way to develop new skills.
Finally, with regard to the most sought-after management skills, It is important to keep in mind that it is not enough to have them, it is not enough to be innovative or collaborative, but it is also necessary to know when to apply each of them and how they can be used in a specific business context.
