A positive attitude at work is essential to achieve productivity, performance, effectiveness, efficiency and excellence.. Without it, all knowledge and skills are nullified.

This is also reflected in his formula by Victor Küppers, the renowned motivational speaker. The formula is presented as follows:

V= (H+C) x A

Where:

  • V is the Value that a person can bring to his or her environment.
  • H are the Skills of that person.
  • C is that person's Knowledge.
  • A is the Attitude of that person.

If we look closely, we realise that, given a zero or negative attitude, a person's value will also be zero or negative, respectively, even if his or her skills and knowledge are exceptional. Attitude is, as we said above, what determines practically everything in the professional sphere.

Let's look at some of them formulas that will allow us to awaken a positive attitude in the work of our employees.

Positive attitude at work reinforcing the group

Human beings are social animals and, as such, we need to interact and have healthy and fruitful relationships with our fellow human beings. In the work environment, this translates into companionship and collaboration, both of which are essential to achieving a successful positive attitude at work.

In order to strengthen the ties between the employees of our company and to achieve an excellent work climate, we recommend that you follow the tips below:

  • Create spaces for common interaction in the company, such as cafeterias, games libraries or rest areas. These types of places will allow workers to cultivate bonds of affection that work does not allow them to have.. In times of COVID-19, it will be necessary to look for alternatives. Have you thought of meeting every Monday for coffee online, through a group video call?
  • Observe (or hire an expert to observe) each employee individually, along with the relationships they have with their colleagues. It is important to detect any friction, as well as to anticipate them, in order to maintain or create a good working environment. When staff work remotely, a daily satisfaction survey can be sent out to identify conflicts and areas for improvement.
  • Offer your employees the possibility of doing a relaxing activity together. An Escape Room or an afternoon in a climbing wall are not options but, How about an online dance course or an interactive online cooking workshop. This kind of environment helps to strengthen the bonds between colleagues.

Positive attitude at work through active listening

For our workers to be able to adopt a positive attitude at work, they need to be heard.. No one can be satisfied if their point of view is ignored or belittled.

The active listening allows us to awaken these kinds of emotions in our employees and to communicate to them that we value and take into account everything they have to tell us. But we are not only talking about face-to-face active listening, but also about non-face-to-face active listening. A classic example of this is suggestion boxes, which can operate anonymously or not.

Nowadays, such mailboxes can be set up perfectly well in an e-mail address.

Positive attitude at work stemming from positive results

When our brain processes information that is pleasurable to us (e.g. good results of an activity we have carried out), triggers a series of emotions that increase our positive attitude and our overall level of satisfaction. This, in turn, conditions that we will be able to achieve good results in the future, so a positive feedback loop is created.

For this reason, it is important that we have some communication channel, physical or online, where we tell our employees about all the good things happening in the company. From an increase in turnover to the conclusion of a contract with an important customer or the opening of a new location in another city, this is where you can talk about it. And of course, that this channel also serves to convey messages congratulating the team for their good work and to communicate to them various rewards we offer them.

All this generates a positive environment that will fuel future good results. And that, no doubt, is essential for our employees to achieve something as important as a positive attitude at work.
