Tax working days must be known to compute deadlines and avoid delays. Most of the time, Obligations to the tax authorities have a deadline. This deadline will probably be set on one of the working days of the tax office.

However, this does not mean that, from the date on which the notification is received or from the time of awareness of the commitment until the deadline, all of which are to be working days.

Taking this peculiarity into account could give us a much-needed extra margin in some cases.

Where to check the tax authorities' working days

There are two sources to consult each year to find out which are the working days of the tax authorities. These are as follows:

Tax working days: which ones are not

As is the case in many other situations, it is much easier to identify tax working days when it comes to identifying which days are not tax working days.

This group of days are known as non-working days and include:

  • Sundays of every week of the year.
  • Saturdays are also.
  • Public holidays in each locality.
  • Regional holidays.
  • National holidays are not replaceable.

Tax holidays: where they come from

The reasons for tax holidays can vary widely. They range from religious reasons, The festivity of Nuestra Señora de la Peña in Fuerteventura, which is celebrated on 20 September; to historical motifs, The Constitution Day is celebrated all over Spain on 6 December. It is a tradition regulated by law, which began in 83.

The peculiarity of the current working days of the Inland Revenue is that it is actually possible to carry out the necessary formalities with the Tax Agency.. This is one of the advantages of the Electronic Headquarters, This facilitates the management of e-mails, the sending of documentation and the filling in of forms, among others, regardless of the day, time or place from which they are carried out.

However, there is one important detail to bear in mind. Although the internet “does not close” and you will be able to access content and even share other content, any transactions carried out outside the working days of the Treasury will not count as having been executed on that date, but on the next working day. It is important to be aware of this rule in order to avoid a few hours or a day of non-compliance leading to penalties or fines.
