New transport fares in Madrid: What changes from July 2025?

From 2022, theublic transport users in Madrid have benefited from significant discounts subsidised by the State., The price of the season ticket was reduced by up to 60% of the usual price of the season ticket. This temporary measure, designed to alleviate the economic impact of the pandemic and the rising cost of living, has enabled thousands of people to get around the city at greatly reduced prices. 

From July 2025, the new transport season ticket fares will come into force in the Community of Madrid, with a price increase that will affect thousands of users. What can companies do to support workers in the face of this increase in the cost of public transport? 

New prices for travel cards in Madrid from 1 July 2025

As of 1 July 2025, the Community of Madrid to reduce public transport subsidiesGeneral users (from 26 to 64 years old) will move from a discount of 60% to a discount of 40%. While a 50% subsidy is maintained for the youth season ticket (15 to 25 years old), The economic impact will be significant for thousands of workers who use public transport every day. 

The main novelty is that children up to 14 years of age can use public transport free of charge (up to now, the subscription had a cost of 8 euros). Likewise, over 65s will retain their current fare and will also be able to travel free of charge.

These new tariffs will be in force until 31 December 2025, and represent a considerable monthly increase for users:

The zone A season ticket, for example, increases by almost 11 euros per month, from 21.80 € to 32.70 €. This is still below the official price, the impact on workers' monthly expenditure is clear.
