But, <\/span><b>what is horizontal communication in companies?<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are in the middle of the Information Age, where the communication strategy of companies is taking a 180-degree turn. It is no longer enough for management to send one-way messages to employees or customers; social networks and the internet have imposed a new communication strategy. <\/span><b>more interactive, circular and multidirectional communication <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and, within organisations, horizontal communication is an essential tool for boosting team coordination, motivation and job satisfaction. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-que-es-la-comunicacion-horizontal\">What is horizontal communication?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Depending on the hierarchical framework in which it is produced, we find <\/span><b>two distinct types of business communication: vertical and horizontal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Unlike the former, which occurs between subordinates and superiors (bottom-up) and vice versa (top-down), <\/span><b>horizontal communication is communication between people at the same hierarchical level or where there is no relationship of authority<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, It flows laterally, as can happen between workers in the same team or employees in different departments or branches, for example.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Razo T\u00e9llez Nancy and Fidel Nefy state in their work<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/es.scribd.com\/doc\/23702306\/Comunicacion-Horizontal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Horizontal Communication<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, This mode of communication \u201ctakes place between<\/span><b> people of the same hierarchical level where individuals have the possibility to communicate directly with each other.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d. Its aim, the authors continue, \u201cis to provide a channel for coordination and problem solving, as well as to provide the alternative of relating to each other as similar people in the organisation, which makes job satisfaction very important\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cuando-emplear-la-comunicacion-horizontal\">When to use horizontal communication?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Horizontal communication is therefore particularly advisable in cases where:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It requires a <\/span><b>high coordination of several professionals <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in order to achieve the objectives set. This would be the case, for example, of the opening of a new headquarters, where all departments are involved in the move and the start of the activity.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is advisable to <\/span><b>providing support and emotional support to workers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is, for example, a new employee who joins the company and needs his colleagues to help him adapt.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cuales-son-los-pros-y-los-contras-de-la-comunicacion-horizontal\">What are the pros and cons of horizontal communication?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the <\/span><b>advantages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of horizontal communication are the following:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It allows the <\/span><b>information gathering<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of great value in a dynamic way.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speeds up the adoption of<\/span><b> faster and more consensual decisions <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a particularly important benefit in the case of cross-departmental projects.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Reduces the risk of errors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, The Committee is also concerned about the need to have different points of view when it comes to making decisions.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It boosts the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edenred.es\/en\/blog\/habilidades-gestion-equipo-eficaz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> <b>coordination of the teams<\/b><\/a><b> and optimises the distribution of tasks.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enriches the <\/span><b>creativity<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The aim is to provide workers with a wider range of information and different points of view or areas of knowledge.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reduces the <\/span><b>bureaucracy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contributes to the <\/span><b>problem or dispute resolution <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">within the organisation.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improves relations between workers and increases <\/span><b>partnership<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the creation of emotional ties within the company.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is configured as <\/span><b>emotional and social support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which reduces negative moods.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generate <\/span><b>climates of trust <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the company that<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edenred.es\/en\/blog\/piramide-de-maslow-motivacion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">boost motivation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and job satisfaction.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, horizontal communication is not free from some <\/span><b>disadvantages or limitations <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when the foundations for its development are not properly laid. In this respect, we can point out: &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Excessive information among the staff may cause the <\/span><b>overload<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of professionals.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The data generated must be classified, entailing a<\/span><b> waste of time <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in this work if an effective methodology is not adopted.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can generate more <\/span><b>confusion and lack of understanding <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">if appropriate channels and protocols for communication management are not established.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also produce <\/span><b>errors arising from excessive technical language<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is not understood by all departments.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can be used with<\/span><b> individualistic purposes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by some professionals or departments, who use it to compete unfairly with their colleagues.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If there is not a positive working environment among the human capital, which is involved and committed to the transmission of the message, horizontal communication, in the end, will be <\/span><b>ineffective<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-como-llevarla-a-cabo\">How can this be done?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to the flow of information between the human capital of an organisation, the <\/span><b>mechanisms or instruments <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many different ways for horizontal communication to take place in the company. Among the most frequent, we can point out:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">E-mail and intranet chats.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Telephone calls.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Personal interviews between employees.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Group meetings, both intra-departmental and multi-departmental.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social networking.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corporate communication applications.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Task management software.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Instant messaging.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Video conferences.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teambuilding activities.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social and recreational events.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, as in any communicative process, the channels of information exchange must also be defined, <\/span><b>it is also necessary to provide guidelines to facilitate understanding between the parties.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this regard, it should be borne in mind that, during communication, interlocutors are exposed to a series of <\/span><b>communication barriers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Specifically, as Alejandro Huacon explains in his paper<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.monografias.com\/trabajos100\/barreras-proceso-comunicacion\/barreras-proceso-comunicacion.shtml#ixzz55Hs5uZ9P\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Barriers in the communication process<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, individuals face the following impediments:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Semantic barriers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">related to the meaning of the words themselves or to the meaning or concept they are really meant to convey.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Physiological barriers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The term \"hearing impairment\" refers to physiological impairments or defects of the transmitter or receiver, such as a hoarseness, for example.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Psychological barriers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> refer to the psychological state of the receiver and the sender as a determining element in the understanding or distortion of the message.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Physical barriers: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are generated by the physical environment, such as interference on the telephone or excessive noise in the office.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Administrative barriers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are caused by poor planning in the communication process.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, in order to prevent the information from being distorted and to reach the reader in the most direct and clearest way, coach Aida Barda, in her article<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/coachdelaprofesional.com\/7-claves-para-una-comunicacion-efectiva\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7 keys to effective communication<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, provides the following <\/span><b>tips for giving and receiving feedback<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>Clarity.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is advisable to think about what you want to say and to convey it as clearly and simply as possible in order to avoid interference.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Conciseness.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Superfluous information that may cause confusion should be avoided; the more concrete and direct the content of the message, the less risk of it being misunderstood.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Concreteness.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Horizontal communication must be specific and contain all the details necessary for the message to be understood.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Correction.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is important to adapt the content of the information to the receiver.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Coherence.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The message must be coherent, following a logical and connected narrative thread.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Assertiveness.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The transmission must<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">be assertive, taking into account the other person's circumstances.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Creativity.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Although the expert points out that it is not a prerequisite, creative messages are more attractive and therefore arouse the interest of the interlocutor.<\/span><span id=\"hs-cta-wrapper-2cb2bfe4-bb20-4959-8dad-c4d0a377bd0c\" class=\"hs-cta-wrapper\"><span id=\"hs-cta-2cb2bfe4-bb20-4959-8dad-c4d0a377bd0c\" class=\"hs-cta-node hs-cta-2cb2bfe4-bb20-4959-8dad-c4d0a377bd0c\"><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dentro de la comunicaci\u00f3n corporativa existe una gran variedad de tipolog\u00edas distintas: interna y externa; formal e informal; ascendente o descendente\u2026 Pero, \u00bfen qu\u00e9 consiste la comunicaci\u00f3n horizontal en las empresas?
