However, the benefits and rewards that a company can offer also include other elements such as flexible working hours, holiday entitlements and many others.<\/p><p>In this article we will look at all the important aspects of compensation and benefits in the workplace.<\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are trade-offs in the workplace?<\/span><\/h2><p>As mentioned in the introduction, benefits and rewards in the world of work are everything that an employee receives in return for his or her work.  This includes not only salary, but also a variety of other tangible benefits (bonuses, commissions, health insurance, retirement plans and paid holidays) or intangible benefits (flexible working hours, career development opportunities, and a good working environment).<\/p><p><strong>The main objective of a company's compensation and benefits is to attract, motivate and retain employees.<\/strong>. A good compensation policy helps to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edenred.es\/en\/blog\/errores-en-el-trabajo-senales-de-la-falta-de-compromiso\/\">ensure that the employee is motivated<\/a> The aim is to help them to perform their work correctly and satisfactorily, making it easier to retain them in the long term and thus reducing the level of turnover.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What types of compensation and benefits are available<\/span><\/h2><p>In recent years, the introduction of employee benefits has allowed for the creation of more comprehensive and attractive remuneration systems. The variety of types of compensation schemes on the market is quite diverse. However, most of them can be grouped into three main categories:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Financial compensation and benefits<\/strong>This is the most important and most easily recognisable remuneration system. Within this group are salary, bonuses, extra pay, or even the availability of options such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edenred.es\/en\/ticket-restaurant\/\">Ticket Restaurant<\/a> o <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edenred.es\/en\/ticket-guarderia\/\">Childcare Ticket<\/a>, among others.<\/li><li><strong>Compensation and benefits in kind<\/strong>Unlike the previous one, it is characterised by the fact that it takes much more general forms than money. In this sense, it can be access to the product or service produced by the company where he or she works, access to health insurance, availability of a company car, access to a private pension plan, etc.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Examples of economic benefits offered by companies include:<\/p><ul><li>Base Salary and Variable Payments<\/li><li>Health and Wellness Benefits<\/li><li>Retirement Plans<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>On the other hand, in-kind benefits may include:<\/p><ul><li>Paid Time Off<\/li><li>Flexible Working Options<\/li><li>Professional Development<\/li><\/ul><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What to consider when creating a compensation and benefits plan<\/span><\/h2><p>While there are a number of important elements to be considered when establishing types of compensation and benefits for employees, current trends are developing from the following key aspects:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Total reward philosophy<\/strong>This is a perception of compensation and benefits as a unified whole, breaking with the tradition that in-kind or strategic compensation is complementary to economic compensation.<\/li><li><strong>Use of new technologies<\/strong>New technologies are present in all aspects of contemporary life. Through their applications, better benefits can be offered which, in turn, improve the employee experience in terms of the perceived benefits they receive for their work.<\/li><li><strong>Active talent management<\/strong>In this sense, active strategies can be implemented to improve employees' commitment to the company, carrying them out on an ongoing basis and providing the human resources department with the necessary tools to detect any shortcomings from the earliest stages.<\/li><\/ul><h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flexible remuneration as an employment benefit<\/span><\/h2><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edenred.es\/en\/flexible-compensation\/\">flexible compensation<\/a> has become an increasingly valued workplace benefit, offering significant flexibility and customisation in employee compensation packages.
